Alumnus Profile: Ashley Wilson – Elevating Her Music Career with Sound Academy

Ashley Wilson, a passionate musician and educator, sought to expand her expertise beyond her formal training. A former student of Full Sail University, she taught music privately and worked on her own singing and production projects. However, she felt something was missing from her skill set. That's when she discovered Sound Academy on Facebook. "I was teaching music privately after Full Sail University and working on my own music, writing and mixing. I always felt like something was missing, so I was looking for ways to fill the gaps. I found Sound Academy on Facebook, did some research, and the rest is history."

A Transformative Learning Experience in a Real Studio

Ashley had an open mind when she signed up for Sound Academy, but she wasn't sure what to expect. She knew the course would be held in a professional studio, but the reality exceeded her expectations. "I'm not going to lie, even though I knew it was going to be in a studio, I didn't know what to expect. I kept an open mind because I found out it was at Quad Studios—a real studio." Her decision was met with skepticism from her peers. "When I told my friends, they raised their eyebrows. When I told them I was at Quad Studios, they didn't believe me. But once I was there, I realized I didn't have to prove anything to the skeptics. They can sign up themselves and be here. I'm here right now."

Solidarity-Based Class Chemistry and Connections in Industry

Ashley was impressed by the diversity of the students in her cohort. From aspiring young engineers in their twenties to experienced musicians in their thirties, everyone was treated equally. “The class was balanced; it didn’t matter where we came from or what our skill levels were. We all helped each other. It was a really enjoyable age group, and we all shared the same goal: to perfect our craft.” Beyond technical skills, Sound Academy provided real networking opportunities, allowing Ashley to forge valuable connections in the industry.

Instructor Support and Practical Training

Ashley attributes much of her success in the program to her instructor, Lucho. “Who doesn’t love Lucho? Let’s be honest. From day one, he told us exactly what to do and prepared us to learn. He was very open and said everything a teacher should say—and that comes from a teacher’s perspective. He led every session wonderfully.” Working on a real studio console was a new challenge for Ashley, as she had primarily worked on her laptop before. However, Sound Academy’s hands-on approach allowed her to quickly overcome her learning curve. “It was a little difficult being on a real console because I was used to just using my laptop, but Lucho explained everything so well that no one was left behind.”

Since completing the program, Ashley has been building her home studio and developing her clientele. She is also collaborating with her nephew to establish a music label. “I’m building a home studio and building a clientele. My nephew and I are starting a label and partnering with his label. I can happily say that I already have meetings with local artists to work on their projects.” Ashley will use her enhanced skills for her career projects, which is precisely the goal of our program.

“It’s not like a traditional school because you’ll get real studio experience. It will be slightly stressful, but that’s how it is in real life. It will be the best investment for a certificate.”
